It is a case that has been causing horror for weeks, not least because of the horrific background: in Lower Austria, a twelve-year-old is said to have been tortured almost to death by his mother. The mother has been in custody since the end of 2022; a psychiatric court report attests her a severe personality disorder with strong sadistic components. But what also makes this case so unbearable is the fact that the boy must have tried several times to draw attention to his situation. According to media reports, a teacher and a hospital have already sounded the alarm in autumn 2022 because of suspected neglect and abuse.
