A young woman from Mouscron filed a complaint once morest a man who allegedly threatened her with a weapon one evening while she was in a café in the city of Hurlus. The complainant said she was very shocked by the events of the evening given that, according to her, the individual targeted her in particular.
Today, the person accused is called to appear before the Tournai criminal court. The man is none other than the occupant of the house opposite the café where the young woman was. He assures that he did not know her.
According to the police report, the accused was initially kicked out of the café by the sorter, due to the fact that he was carrying a knife on him and that he had brandished it during a fight within the same premises. of the establishment. He then returned home, and came out with a rifle with which he fired. “I remember defending a girl in the cafe and then being asked to leave. I went home calmly, but the men who were bothering the young woman in question followed me and tried to force my door. They appeared threatening, I then went out with my pellet rifle, the barrel pointed upwards, with the sole aim of scaring them. I collect weapons that are found on the market for decoration, air soft mainly,” explains the defendant.
Was he pointing his gun at the victim?
“What interest would the lady have had in lying, if you did not know each other?”, asked the court presenter. If the version of the victim and that of the accused diverge so much, it would seem that it would be because of the large quantity of alcohol that the latter had ingested on the evening of the incident. “I was drunk, confides the defendant. I don’t remember very well, but I know that I didn’t want to target either the girl or the coffee. It’s a misunderstanding.”
Since the events, a year ago, the Mouscronnois has stopped consuming alcohol and narcotics.
The king’s prosecutor considers that the act that Monsieur had committed does indeed constitute a threat. “Going out with a weapon and pointing it is creating fear of imminent harm. We can say that the defendant is in fact pointing his weapon because he admitted it during his police interview, and on the surveillance video, we see clearly the victim was screaming and entering the cafe,” he said.
However, the public prosecutor takes into account the defendant’s lack of prior record and his young age. “In order not to compromise his professional future, I suggest a work sentence of at least 60 hours,” requested the prosecutor.
The court will deliver its judgment on January 18.
