Daniel Sancho remains imprisoned in a Thai prison waiting for trial time to arrive for killing and dismembering the Colombian doctor Edwin Arrieta. For weeks, his family has been carrying out exhaustive work to collect evidence and contradict the evidence that the Thai police have and with which they requested the death penalty for the Spanish chef.

However, in Thailand the person who defended Sancho was the Thai lawyer, Khun Anan, as he might practice his profession without problem; contrary to what happens with García Montes, who, being from abroad, does not have the power to legally assume the defense. That does not mean that he cannot give his opinion and work for the interests of Sancho’s family.
The differences between García Montes and Khun Anan
Upon his arrival on the island, Marcos García Montes began to have differences with the jurist Khun Anan, to the point of criticizing the work of Thai lawyers. Faced with this situation, the renowned lawyer Anan decided to withdraw from the case.
In fact, Rodolfo Sancho issued a statement in which he reported the new developments that exist in the case of his son. “Daniel Sancho has dispensed, last Thursday, September 7, before the Provincial Court of the island of Koh Samui and due to discrepancies in the defense, of the services of the Thai lawyer Kunh Anan,” they said in the document.
In this statement it is explained that the visit of the Spanish lawyer, together with Rodolfo, to Thailand is due “for the sole purpose of collecting information that is considered fundamental for the work that has been carried out in Spain, of support and collaboration in the interests.” by Daniel Sancho.

Daniel Sancho, without a lawyer
Daniel Sancho’s family is now worried, as they have to find a Thai lawyer as soon as possible to defend the person responsible for killing Edwin Arrieta. That is not an easy task considering the complexity of the case and the progress of justice in Thailand.
For criminal law experts, the biggest mistake of Sancho’s family was losing the services of renowned lawyer Kunh Anan.
For now there is no precise date as to when the trial once morest Daniel Sancho and ‘lights’ will begin on the closing of a chapter that has caused commotion in three countries: Spain, Colombia and Thailand.
When Thai authorities presented the findings of their investigation, they recommended the death penalty. This is to ensure having “sufficient evidence” for such punishment; for example, evidence of the objects that Sancho would have purchased for the crime and the doctor’s remains found in a landfill and the sea.
His defense seeks to exhaust resources so that the death penalty is not contemplated. However, in Thailand, such crimes might also carry a life sentence or 15 to 20 years behind bars.
