Police have arrested 380 of the students who protested in Rawalpindi against the alleged rape of a girl in a private college and registered eight cases against more than 1,500 unidentified persons.
Police said the protesters violated Article 144, interfered in state affairs, damaged and set fire to property, pelted stones at police mobile vans.
According to the FIR, the protestors injured the policemen and spread terror, after the students forcibly entered the hostel premises, vandalized the hostel, pelted stones and damaged the vehicles there.
Police fired tear gas to disperse the students and initially evacuated the teachers and staff who were trapped in the building. The police said that cases have been registered in various police stations including Airport, Gujjar Khan, Sadar (Wah), Morgah and Naseerabad.
Meanwhile, to control the crowd, the road from Murree Road to Faizabad has been partially blocked by placing containers.
The protests come amid ongoing unrest across the province over allegations of rape that went viral on social media platforms, prompting students to stage several protests in various cities in recent days.
More than two dozen people, including four policemen, were injured in violent protests in Lahore on Tuesday.
