The Caribbean is on alert before a group of Haitians who escaped from prison in Antigua

Several Eastern Caribbean countries are on alert in the search for five Haitians who escaped last week from Antigua and Barbuda authorities following being detained for lack of immigration documents.

As reported on Wednesday by the Government of Saint John, the five Haitians arrived at the VC Bird International Airport in Antigua and Barbuda coming from a trip from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republicwith the intention of reaching the island of Montserrat.

However, the group, made up of four men and one woman, was detained by officers from the Immigration Department of Antigua and Barbuda. for not having the official documents to be able to enter the Caribbean country.

Given this, the security forces of Antigua and Barbuda transferred the group to the Immigration Detention Center at Camp Blizzard in the Caribbean country last Friday night.

While the group was detained in prison, the Antigua and Barbuda authorities did all the paperwork for the Haitians to return to their country of origin last Saturday. Nevertheless, the five Haitians escaped from the Detention Center.

According to the authorities of Antigua and Barbuda, they assure that the five Haitians are still fugitives in their country.
