A serious traffic accident occurred on Saturday morning in Neo Faliro, near the “Karaiskakis” stadium, when a car veered off its course and ended up almost destroyed on the tram lines.
According to the first information, the vehicle was driven by a young man, about 25 years old, with his partner as a passenger. Shortly after 8 am, under unspecified circumstances, the driver lost control, hit the bars on the right of the road and, after being dragged for more than 50 meters (52 according to Traffic), ended up on the Tram lines.
The Traffic Police, Piraeus municipality crews and STASY personnel immediately arrived at the scene. They initially freed the girl, who had hit her head on the windshield, but she refused to be taken to hospital. Attendees advised passengers to be served as a precaution.
The collision left debris for tens of meters on the Tram tracks, between the “Karaiskakis” and “Mikra Asia” stops. For this reason, the routes to Piraeus were temporarily suspended, while in the region of Asia Minor there was a traffic jam that lasted for some time.

**Interview with Traffic Safety Expert, Dr. Maria Konstantinou**
**Interviewer:** Dr. Konstantinou, thank you for joining us today. We just learned about a serious traffic accident in Neo Faliro where a young driver lost control of his car and ended up on tram tracks, causing significant disruptions. What are your thoughts on the potential causes of such accidents, especially given the recent spike in traffic incidents?
**Dr. Konstantinou:** Thank you for having me. Traffic accidents like the one in Neo Faliro often raise questions about driver behavior, road conditions, and vehicle safety. It’s essential to consider factors such as speed, distractions—like mobile phone use—and overall road design. In this case, it seems the driver lost control and veered off the road.
**Interviewer:** It must be alarming for residents and commuters. Given the aftermath of debris on tram tracks and suspended routes, how can local authorities improve safety to prevent such incidents in the future?
**Dr. Konstantinou:** Absolutely, the implications for commuters are significant. Local authorities could benefit from implementing better road signage, clearer lane markings, and possibly even barriers to prevent vehicles from veering off into dangerous areas. They should also consider public awareness campaigns regarding safe driving practices.
**Interviewer:** Indeed, it seems preventative measures are crucial. However, a question arises: do you think the responsibility primarily lies with drivers for their behavior, or should infrastructure improvements take a stronger focus in discussions about traffic safety?
**Dr. Konstantinou:** That’s a compelling question, and it often sparks intense debate. Many argue that driver responsibility is paramount—after all, they control the vehicle. However, equally important is the role that infrastructure plays. Poorly maintained roads or inadequate safety features can exacerbate driver errors. A balanced approach that considers both aspects is essential for real improvement in traffic safety.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights, Dr. Konstantinou. We encourage our readers to share their thoughts on this topic: Do you believe that driver accountability should take precedence over infrastructure improvements, or should both be addressed equally to enhance road safety?
