While France came second in Eurovision last year thanks to the performance of Barbara Pravi, the competition will be held this year between May 10 and 14 in Italy.
But before, it will be necessary to designate the candidate who will defend the colors of France. France Televisions revealed yesterday Wednesday, the name of the twelve candidates who will compete, next March 5, at the time of an evening broadcast on France 2: “Eurovision France, it is you who decide!”.
“After more than six months of research, more than 1,500 applications – more than double the number this year compared to last year – hundreds of hours of listening to titles and castings, the entire French delegation is happy to make you discover these new talents”, thus noted Alexandra Redde-Amiel, director of varieties and entertainment of France Televisions in a press release.
Candidates decided by the public and a jury
The public as well as a jury of personalities, composed among others of André Manoukian, Yseult, Joyce Jonathan or even Nicoletta and chaired by Jenifer, will be invited to vote for the person they wish to see compete next May in Italy. And they will have to decide between “a cast focused on the diversity of musical genres, multi-generational, oscillating between vintage, daring electro, urban pop and of course French song” she continued.
Here are the twelve candidates and the titles they will defend in an attempt to succeed Barbara Pravi and her anthem “Voilà”.
