Devils 3 – Canadians 1 (3rd period) | Evgenii Dadonov finally breaks the ice, but the Canadian is brought back to earth by Jack Hughes.

The Canadiens are aiming for a fourth straight victory Tuesday night at the Bell Centre, but the challenge is daunting once morest the mighty New Jersey Devils, who have won their last nine games.

After a scoreless first period, Jack Hughes opened the scoring at the Bell Center with a precise shot on the power play. Kirby Dach was in jail for tripping Jesper Bratt at the start of 2nd.

The Devils took out their horns once more moments later. Dougie Hamilton in turn beat Jake Allen with his 5th goal of the season to double New Jersey’s lead.

After two consecutive goals for the Devils, Evgenii Dadonov reduced the lead to just one goal with his first goal with the Canadian. He was still looking for a first point following 11 games in his new colours.

The Dadonov thinning was short-lived at the Bell Centre. Jack Hughes then played the spoilsports by scoring his second goal of the second period to restore a two-goal lead to the Devils.

The troop of Martin St-Louis is deprived of attackers Jonathan Drouin et Joel Armia. The two players did not participate in training on Monday and Tuesday. They are both injured in the upper body, according to the Habs.

Michael Pezzetta et Juraj Slafkovsky should take their place in training. Slafkovsky is eligible for a return following serving a two-game suspension for a dangerous hit on Matt Luffof the Detroit Red Wings.

Jake Allen should be the starting goaltender. It will be opposed to Vitek Vanecekwho occupies the net of the Devils during the absence of MacKenzie Blackwood, injured in a knee for nearly two weeks.

The Devils sit atop the Metropolitan Division with a 12-3-0 record, well ahead of the New York Rangers, Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins.
