Striking Distance studio and publisher Krafton have announced the cancellation of the Japanese version of The Callisto Protocol.
The horror and science-fiction game has failed to obtain a CERO age rating, the Japanese equivalent to the European PEGI and the North American ESRB, due to its violent content, which means it cannot be put up for sale in that country.
The developers explained in the official Japanese account that “The Callisto Protocol has decided to stop the release of the Japanese version. At this time it is not possible to pass the ZERO rating. We have decided that we cannot provide you with the experience you need. We hope that everyone in Japan understand it”.
Users who have made the reservation will receive a full refund of the amount paid for it.
The Callisto Protocol will go on sale next December 2 and will have versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. You can read our first impressions at the preview we published this week.
