The Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber denied that there was a division in the ranks of farmers and saw a political nuance in the ongoing farmers’ protests, according to a position of the organization sent to the media. It emphasizes that the chamber continues to uphold the demands of its members, who are backed by more than 10,000 farmers, and protects the interests of all of them.

Yesterday, farmers blocked the Ilinden-Eksohi border crossing near the village of Sadovo for two hours. Representatives of the National Association of Potato Growers, as well as grain producers and livestock breeders joined the protest. Meanwhile, it is understood that an initiative committee comprising 26 trade organizations from the Agriculture sector does not support the agreements reached during the series of meetings between representatives of the government and several agricultural organizations. On February 13, they continue with the protests. This happened a day following the industry agreed with the authorities to stop the effective protests.

The escalation of protests, instead of constructive talks in a situation of upcoming rotation in the executive power, gives a political nuance and the pursuit of personal goals, from which BAK categorically distinguishes itself

The Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber

“The organizations that continue the protests have an unknown mass of members, unlike the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber. That is why we demand that the government adopt a law on branch organizations and the agrarian chamber, which will “clarify” and legitimize all structures in the agrarian sector”, for also says in the announcement of BAK.

From there they also add that the representative of the National Association of Potato Producers (NAC) did not submit to the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber a decision of the management board that would be in conflict with the opinion of the BAC regarding the ongoing negotiations and the agreement being prepared with the government.

The ruling and protesting farmers came to an understanding

Yesterday, Mediapool wrote that the farmers’ organization of Deputy Minister Rumen Radev continues with the protests. It is regarding the National Association of Potato Producers, which is headed by Todor Dzhikov, who was the Deputy Minister of Agriculture in the last office of the President.

“The Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber accepts the continuation of the protests as a PR action that serves political purposes, and calls on farmers not to give in to suggestions that aim to solve personal, not branch problems,” the chamber also stated.
