The Buffalo Bills have prematurely extended the contracts of head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane.
Both are now tied to the New York State team until 2027.
The extensions have been a deal for some time, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, and arguably provide more appropriate rewards for the winning duo.
Both McDermott and Beane joined the franchise ahead of the 2017/18 season and during that time managed to transform the club into a title contender.
Bills owner: “Love it”
The Bills released a statement from owner Terry Pegula regarding the new contracts. In it he praised McDermott’s work ethic and leadership style: “He comes to the Bills every day and asks no one – player or coach – more than he is willing to do himself.”
Beane also got some warm words from the 72-year-old: “I know he likes to win but I also know he hates to lose. He’s not afraid to say what’s on his mind and when he’s involved with something If he doesn’t agree, he says so, even to the owner. I love it.”
The 49-year-old McDermott won 62 of 97 games in his six years as head coach and even led the Bills to the AFC Championship Game in the 2020 season.
In the Beane/McDermott era, Buffalo missed the playoffs only in the 2018 season and, at 63.9 percent, has the third-best winning record of any NFL team behind the Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints.
