This affable man, whose courtesy was combined with strong determination, was a humanist, as emphasized by all those who, from left to right, paid tribute to him. Born June 23, 1957 in Paris, he joined the Socialist Party at the age of 20 and became a member of the national office in 1992. Elected for the first time in 1983 in the ranks of the opposition to the Kremlin-Bicêtre municipal council, he he will have to wait twelve years to sit at the head of the town hall. He will be re-elected in 2001, 2008, 2014 and 2020.

Elected deputy for the tenth constituency of Val-de-Marne in 2012, he handed over his position as mayor to his first deputy, Jean-Marc Nicolle, in January 2016, to respect the law on the non-cumulation of mandates. But his successor, caught up in various affairs, was indicted in 2018 for breach of trust, favoritism, influence peddling and active corruption, but nonetheless retained his position. In the following municipal elections, in 2020, he ran once morest his former traveling companion. He won with difficulty with 34.2% of the votes in the second round, within the framework of a triangular.

Close to Arnaud Montebourg (he had participated in his pre-campaign for the 2022 presidential election), Jean-Luc Laurent was also a loyal supporter of Jean-Pierre Chevènement. In 1993, he participated alongside him in the creation of the Citizens’ Movement, which became the Republican and Citizens’ Movement. He acts as general secretary of the first and then becomes national secretary of the second.

Regional councilor of Ile-de-France in 1986, he was elected vice-president in charge of housing, urban renewal and land action, following the victory of the left in 1998. He was then special delegate of Greater Paris and at the same time chairs the Ile-de-France Land Establishment. On the evening of his election to the Palais-Bourbon, in 2012, he announced his resignation from these two mandates to comply with the legislation. He fought his last fight on December 14, 2023 when he welcomed the mayors of the department to together ask the State “to no longer abandon the municipalities of France and particularly Val-de-Marne”.
