The Brothers Of Blues with the Deurnese singer Joost Manders ended up among the best four bands on Saturday evening in the final of The Tribute: Battle Of The Bands on SBS6. This allows the band to perform in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on April 12, 13 and 14.
The tribute bands of the Bee Gees, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Frank Sinatra also finished in the top four and are on the line-up of the Ziggo Dome concerts.
‘Swings like hell’
In the final, six bands were still in the race for the four spots on the Ziggo Dome stage. After the first round of the finals, the Spice Girls and Joe Cocker tribute bands were eliminated.
The Brothers Of Blues deed de Blues Brothers Medley and that turned out to be a good choice for this final. Joost Manders and his band received high marks from the jury. For example, Angela Groothuizen gave it an 8.5, Spike a 9.0 and Cesar Zuiderwijk even a 9.5. Adding an 8.6 from the audience, the band achieved a total score of 35.6. “This is the ultimate party. It swings like crazy,” says Cesar Zuiderwijk.
Second final round
To ultimately determine in which order the bands will perform in the Ziggo Dome, a second final round followed. The four bands were allowed to play a song from an earlier episode one more time to convince the jury and the audience that they should be the headliner of the Ziggo concerts. The Brothers Of Blues chose Soul Man. With three 8.5 from the jury and an 8.6 from the audience, the band achieved a total point of 34.1.
‘I piss my pants’
This means that Joost Manders’ band finished in third place and that means that the Blues Brothers tribute band can play 30 minutes in the Ziggo Dome. Frank Sinatra (fourth) plays 15 minutes, Creedence Clearwater Revival (second) 45 minutes and the Bee Gees headline 60 minutes. “We certainly hoped so, but if this is the result. I’m pissing my pants, man,” said Joost Manders.
Tribute To Toto
Joost Manders was not the only Deurnese participant The Tribute: Battle Of The Bands. Deurne residents Twan Dirks, Vera Keijsers and Jeroen Teunissen participated with Tribute To Toto. After weeks of praise and high marks, the Toto tribute band has received heavy criticism in the past two weeks. In last week’s semi-final, the band finished bottom. As a result, Tribute To Toto was eliminated with the Ziggo Dome in sight.
The fact that Tribute To Toto did not advance to the final caused a lot of commotion on social media. “I don’t take this program seriously anymore,” responded a disappointed viewer. “Spice Girls will continue and Toto will go home, The Tribute makes a complete fool of himself with this,” was the response from another follower. And someone else: “I put my tickets for the Ziggo Dome on TicketSwap and will see Tribute To Toto somewhere else.”
Ziggo Dome
In The Tribute: Battle Of The Bands the participating tribute bands try to get as close as possible to the sound of the original artists. They are judged by a professional jury, which consists of Golden Earring drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk, singer Angela Groothuizen and DI-RECT guitarist Spike. Gerard Ekdom presents the SBS program. The four finalists of the program may perform during a major concert in the Ziggo Dome in April.
