Prosecutor’s office railing closed. Extreme zeal. In the shadow of the cameras, prosecutor Silvina Fernández took an investigation this Tuesday into Gustavo Herrera, who arrived heavily guarded by uniformed officers from the Córdoba Penitentiary Service. It was in Courts II.
This is the brother of Gabriela Pérez, the young cleaning worker who was murdered on September 9 during a union lunch at the Yapeyú neighborhood club, southeast of the city of Córdoba.
The prosecutor charged him as the alleged perpetrator of homicide aggravated by the use of a firearm.
The accused denied the facts in a procedural act that, at most, took 30 minutes.
The defense lawyer, Sebastian Lascano, reported that his client responded to the prosecutor’s request and limited himself to giving his information, listening to the fact for which he is accused, and refrained from testifying.
Once the guards made him enter the office through a private access hallway, they sat him down in front of the prosecutor who, without too many detours, began with the summoned instance.
Although the man has experience of facing justice – he has a criminal record that had him imprisoned for other reasons –, this time he broke down.
“He cried and we had to restrain him. It is logical, she had to remember once more what happened to her own sister. After a few minutes, following taking a few drinks of water, she was able to continue with the case and finally denied the facts,” Lascano detailed.
There was speculation that Herrera might provide some clue regarding what happened that Saturday at noon in the Yapeyú neighborhood. However, this did not happen and he only limited himself to saying that he had not been the person who killed Gabriela Pérez.
Even so, at the end of the act, he was handcuffed once more and returned to jail. He will continue to be detained.
The case continues under summary secrecy
The secrecy of the summary was not lifted either.
Investigation sources had anticipated, before the procedural measure was carried out, that this was not going to happen during the day. Presumably, the prosecution is on the trail of a fugitive.
According to information issued by the investigative bodies, the person who would have transferred Gabriela’s murderer is being pursued. Until the capture of this second suspect occurs, and the subsequent investigation of him, the processing of the case will continue to be closed under lock and key.
According to Lascano, until now they have not been able to access any details of the investigation.
“It is what corresponds. “Neither the defense nor the prosecution have access to the information regarding the case when it is under summary secrecy,” the lawyer noted.
Part of Herrera’s family remained in the vicinity of Fernández’s office, also away from the lights of the cameras and the press.
The pain of the family
“In the family everyone is sure that Gustavo did not commit any crime. “They have made his position public and believe that he is ‘a parsley’ who is paying for the actions of others,” remarked the defense lawyer.
The relatives who waited outside the office refrained from giving statements.
In dialogue with The voiceGabriela and Herrera’s mother had said days ago that her son “had no responsibility” in this atrocious crime that caused so much pain among all of them.
However, for the prosecutor, Gabriela’s own brother would have been the man who pulled the trigger.
The case is progressing and Justice seeks to establish the motive behind the attack.
The union dispute between the general secretary of the cleaning union (Soelsac), Sergio Fitipaldi, and an internal force that disputes the leadership (Más Soelsac), led by Franco Saillén del Surrbac, is closely reviewed.
