The crisis of cracking the Sidi Bishr Corniche in Alexandria sparked controversy, coinciding with the devastating earthquake in Turkey, and the Sidi Bishr beach crisis began to appear in 2021, as the sandy area was completely eroded, and the waves began to crash directly against the Corniche wall, in the “broom” nucleus, known for its high waves that reach to 5 metres.
The crisis was repeated again in the nucleus of the broom 2022, which caused the beach ladder to collapse from below, as well as part of the pergola above the corniche overlooking the beach. As for the greatest impact that the region witnessed, it was in February 2023, when a crack occurred in the floor of the corniche with a length of 20 meters with an inclination. The fence, in conjunction with the “Al-Karm” core, which witnessed an unprecedented rise in waves, in addition to strong winds with a speed of 80 km / h.
In the midst of that crisis, the executive bodies took an urgent action to protect the beach and the Corniche, and the Egyptian Authority for Beach Protection, in coordination with the governorate, put concrete barriers to repel the force of waves and sea currents.
While the Alexandria Beaches Protection Authority repaired the landing on the sidewalk, and implemented additional protection works using concrete blocks weighing 5 tons to complete the protection work in full in the area.
