The British Museum, which is one of the world’s largest history museums, is partnering with the Sandbox metaverse and releasing their latest NFT digital collection together with the French startup LaCollection. According to the press release, the works will reflect the special features of the museum and will offer “new, immersive experiences”. The museum also enters the world of virtual games. “This is a great opportunity for players because no matter where they are, they can learn regarding the amazing wealth of history, art and culture,” said Sebastien Borget, co-founder of The Sandbox. A representative of The British Museum added that the institution is constantly working to reach its audience in innovative ways. As a matter of fact, this is not the first web3 initiative of the museum, as it has previously published three NFT collections in cooperation with LaCollection. In September 2021, they collaborated on the sale of digital works by Katsushika Hokusai, and in the spring of 2022, on the auction of virtual versions of the works of British artist Joseph Mallord William Turner. Incidentally, a web3 exhibition, which examined the relationship between blockchain and art, debuted in Paris in January. Also on display was CryptoPunk #110, which was donated to the museum by Yuga Labs, the parent company of CryptoPunks. Last year, The Sandbox announced plans to create an in-game museum dedicated to the World of Women project. In the meantime, a Grammy Award-winning band also entered its metaverse, and recently there were reports that several large banks have a presence in the virtual world. HSCB, among others, fled to the sandbox to engage with the web3 community. Our related articles:
