The British government is holding a vote of confidence in itself

LONDON (Archyde.com) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s political spokeswoman said on Wednesday the government would hold a vote of confidence on Monday, after blocking efforts by the opposition Labor Party to hold the vote after ministers objected to the wording of the proposal.
Johnson has said he will step down once the ruling Conservative Party chooses a new prime minister, but Labor wanted a vote of confidence against both the government and Johnson in a bid to force him to leave his position early.
The government thwarted Labor’s bid, saying any suggestion of a vote of confidence in Johnson should be ruled out. Conservative MPs, and even Johnson’s critics, have said they will vote to support the government as the prime minister has announced he is stepping down.
“We are making a proposal to give (the House of Commons, the lower house of Parliament) a chance to decide whether it trusts the government,” Johnson’s spokeswoman said. She said she believed the matter would be up for discussion on Monday.
When asked why Labour’s proposal was rejected, she said that a proposal to hold a vote of confidence in the Prime Minister personally did not make good use of Parliament’s time. She added that the Labor Party was “playing a game of politics”.
“However, we adhere to the basic constitutional principle that the current government must always enjoy the confidence of the (Common) House,” she added.
