Capital authorities confirmed that bread shortages will continue this weekend in Havana, the Cuban capital. Havana residents (Cubans in general) dream of the day when bread will once once more be an everyday product.
According to official information, the population of Centro Habana, Habana Vieja, San Miguel del Padrón, Diez de Octubre, Cerro, Arroyo Naranjo and Playa will be the most affected by the bread shortage in the island’s capital.
In a statement released by Tribuna de La Habana, it was said that there will be delays in the availability of bread starting this Friday, as well as with the associated credits, due to the delay in the delivery of flour to the area.
The remaining supply for the production and sale of bread is in transit from Cienfuegos. It is expected to arrive in the capital in the next few hours, which will allow the production and distribution of bread to resume with some normality, they said.
According to the report, the directors of these municipalities have established communication with the relevant authorities to address this situation and guarantee the supply of bread to the population. From the government of Havana they thanked the population for “their collaboration and support in this process. We will keep you informed of any developments regarding this situation.”
Bread shortage in the capital and the rest of the country
As is evident, the highest levels of the country guarantee bread in the capital and that there is no shortage in the rest of the country. And even so, there is a shortage of this product for sale by wineries. According to this information, it is confirmed that they take the flour from Cienfuegos to use it in Havana. And surely in several municipalities of Cienfuegos and the center of the country, there has been no bread for weeks.
“Flour should be prioritized for the bread in the basket, as long as that is not guaranteed they should not sell bread released from the Cuban Bread Chain, it is unfair,” said a user in this regard.
“This is already a lack of respect for the population, several days or weeks ago they said that the flour was guaranteed until the month of June, where is it? You can’t handle any of them and since they like to say the word guaranteed, well, they shouldn’t say it anymore,” added another affected person.
