The City of Lausanne has a new cultural venue. The House of Culture and Digital Exploration officially opened its doors this Wednesday. It is located in the old mudac building, close to the cathedral.
Lausanne has an additional cultural venue, a House of Culture and Digital Exploration, called The boxes. Inaugurated this November 1, it is a plural space installed in the Maison Gaudard, former mudac building, on the square in front of the cathedral of the Vaud capital.
Pyxis hosts the Vaud Cultural Office and the permanent offices of six Lausanne festivals (Festival de la Cité, Label Suisse, the Lausanne Garden Parties, the Lausanne Underground Film & Music Festival, the Fête du Slip and the Fête de la Musique).
This plural space is managed by three associations and headed by Chantal Prod’Hom, former director of mudac. The latter wants to make this house a space for all generations.
This House will also organize its offer around a digital exploration hub, a cultural café and various spaces. Two exhibition rooms and three large workshops will also be available, both for the promotion of citizen projects and to highlight the local artistic scene.
Demystifying digital
The digital exploration component proposes, for the public of all ages, to establish a dialogue between humans and machines, while raising awareness of the issues of this universe via various activities. A tangible approach to understanding and offering workshops anchored in reality.
This project also aims to demystify complex and abstract digital concepts with a poetic, playful and participatory approach. It will revolve around six territories: artificial intelligence, robotics, 3D printing, generative art, interactivity and video games.
Meetings and workshops are already planned for the coming days. Activities can be found on the website of The boxes.
