The Boston Athletic Association (BAA), which organizes the marathon run annually in the Massachusetts city, announced on Monday that the next edition of the race, on April 17, 2023, will be open to non-binary people.
To register in this new category, athletes will need to have completed a previous marathon, where they had been registered as non-binary, during the qualification window (open since September 2021). The qualification standards will be the same as those imposed on women. But the BAA said they will be updated later.
The New York City Marathon and Half Marathon, run last April, also featured a category for non-binary athletes.
