The books of 2023 have been revealed, among the winners are a novel by a politician, a book by the Poetry Spring laureate, memoirs about a luminary | Culture

In the traditional action, specially formed expert commissions selected during 2023 competed. published books. A total of 25 books were nominated in five categories. Readers might vote for them for two months – from the announcement of the contenders for the awards at the Vilnius Book Fair.

The following books became readers’ favorites:

• in the prose category – “Coin & Labyrinth” by Mantos Adomėnas (Baltos lankos publishing house);
• in the poetry category – Vytautas Kaziela’s “Neatsimerk, Lord” (Kauko laiptai publishing house);
• in the category of non-fiction books – “Mūsų Irena: memories regarding Irena Veisaitė”, compiled by Reda Pabarčienė (published by the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore);
• in the category of children’s books – “Girl with a shotgun” by Marius Marcinkevičius and Lina Itagaki (publisher “Misteris Pinkmanas”);
• in the category of books for teenagers – Viktorijas Butautis “Canary secret” (Vaga publishing house).

A special radio theater award established by LRT KLASIKOS was also presented at the laureate announcement ceremony. This time it went to writer Danuta Kalinauskaita for the book “Whites before blacks” (Tyto alba publishing house). The author of the book will be given a unique opportunity to stage a radio play based on the book’s motifs together with radio theater professionals.

The Ministry of Culture awarded cash prizes to the authors of the book winners, and the author’s stamp studio “Ekslibris.lt” gave name stamps. Their author is graphic artist Jūratė Kemeklytė-Bagdonienė.

The purpose of the campaign “Book of the Year Collection” is to encourage Lithuanian writers to create high-quality, modern literature for people of all ages, to encourage people of all ages and different social groups to read, and to ensure the availability of artistically valuable literature.

The Book of the Year election has been held annually since 2005 and is part of the Reading Promotion Program.

The campaign is organized by the Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Lithuania.
