Among the activities scheduled for this Saturday at the Book Fair, the mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pelayo, has participated in the round table ‘Literature and Cinema’, organized by the Ateneo Siglo XXI, made up of Francisco Morales, Isidoro Rodríguez, Javier Rodríguez, Joaquín Casas, Mercedes Gutiérrez and Víctor Cantero, a cast of professionals, film lovers and linked to the world of literature and architecture.
The mayor thanked the representatives of the Ateneo Siglo XXI for their collaboration within the framework of the Book Fair, with initiatives like this one that are added to this year’s program with an edition focused on Jerez’s process towards Jerez 2031, European Capital of Culture.
In this regard, the mayor has highlighted the importance of demonstrating to Europe that Jerez is committed to culture from all areas, from all disciplines, covering the audiovisual industry, gastronomy and, of course, the publishing world.
He has also advanced that 2025 will be a preparatory and participatory year for the celebration in 2026 of the Year of Letters, coinciding with the centenary of the birth of José Manuel Caballero Bonald.
Regarding the development of the Book Fair, the mayor has highlighted the value of learning, contributed by the writers who participate and interact with the public, whose works, in some cases, have also been brought to the audiovisual sector under various formats.
Finally, he also highlighted the promotion of the Association of Performing and Audiovisual Arts of Jerez, in the second edition of the ‘Con accent’ Festival.which will be held from October 14 to 19 at various venues and facilities in the city.
