The body of an Israeli soldier killed in a Hamas attack is still being held in the Gaza Strip

The Israeli military confirmed the death of 19-year-old Oz Daniel, and the Hostage and Disappeared Families Forum said his remains were being held in a Palestinian enclave.

“Oz’s body is still being held by Hamas,” the forum said in a statement. O. Danielis was a guitarist who believed in the power of music to change the world, it added.

Palestinian Islamist militants kidnapped around 250 Israelis and foreigners in the October 7 attack, and Israel says around 130 hostages remain in the Gaza Strip, 31 of whom are believed to have been killed.

During the week-long ceasefire that ended on December 1, more than 100 hostages were released, many of them exchanged for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

Israeli soldiers mistakenly killed three hostages and rescued three more during military operations in the Gaza Strip.

The Hamas attack in Israel killed about 1,160 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP estimate based on official figures.

After vowing to destroy Hamas, Israel launched a massive military offensive that has killed at least 29,692 people, mostly women and children, in the Gaza Strip, according to the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry.
