“Hum Aap Ke Hipun Koon” is one of the blockbuster films of Bollywood, which has been released for thirty years. Everyone knows that the film was dubbed ‘Wedding Video’ by the industry during the pre-release trials. But it was well received by the public, and it changed the lives of many people.

The film was instrumental in catapulting the careers of Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Renuka Shehne, Mohneesh Bahl and director Sooraj Barjatia. Not only this, apart from people related to the film, many other people including cinema halls and even black ticket sellers also benefited from this film.

At an event organized to celebrate the anniversary of ‘Hum Aap Ka Hain Koon’, the team of the film shared several interesting stories. The event and the screening of the film was held at the famous Liberty Cinema in Mumbai. This was the time when Liberty Cinema was showing B grade movies. Because the family stopped coming there due to lack of facilities.

At the event, the director of the film Suroj Barjartia revealed that when the management of Metro Cinema was first contacted to screen the film, they refused to screen the film. While Nazir Hussain, the owner of Liberty Cinema at that time, “welcomed us with open heart,” Sooraj said. He also accepted all the conditions set by the management of Rajshree Productions. That involved upgrading the theater in every way, including installing a then-modern Wonder, ultra-stereo sound system and of course reconfiguring the women’s washroom.

The historic success of ‘Hum Aap Ka Hain Koon’ opened the doors of fortune for Liberty as well. People even from distant suburbs came to watch the movie at Amand Amand Cross Cinema Hall.

The film’s producer Kamal Kumar Barjatia admitted at the anniversary screening that the current booking window at Liberty was not opened for a full year. Because all his tickets were sold in advance.

Suraj Barjatia laughingly said that the business of ticket sellers in black also flourished and a person selling movie tickets in black became the owner of two flats.
