Football star Michael Oher (37), whose career inspired the film “The Blind Side”, claims to have been betrayed by the couple who took him in as a teenager with a promise of adoption.

In reality, his supposed adoptive parents only took over his guardianship and thus enriched themselves with Oher, according to court documents from which the US broadcaster NBC News quotes, among others.

The story of poor-born Oher, who is taken on by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy and later makes it to the NFL, hit theaters in the 2009 film The Blind Side. The film was a box office hit, and actress Sandra Bullock received an Oscar for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy. Oher, on the other hand, had criticized the film and the way he was portrayed in it early on.

According to consistent reports, the 37-year-old football star filed a motion in a Tennessee court on Monday (local time) to have the Tuohys’ guardianship of him ended. According to the application, he unknowingly signed the guardianship in 2004 at the age of 18 when he thought the couple wanted to adopt him. Among other things, he is said to have unknowingly assigned the rights to his life story. Sean Tuohy told the Daily Memphian newspaper that his family was “devastated” by the allegations.
