The bill of the Ministry of Education entitled “Strengthening the Public University – Framework for the operation of non-profit branches of foreign universities”, was accepted “by a majority” by the competent committee of the Parliament.

In his concluding statement, the Minister of Education, Religion & Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis criticized the opposition for having an ideological conflict “as if I were in the auditoriums of the ASOEE in 2001…”.

In particular, regarding PASOK’s constitutional position, he said that it “stranges” him since they have given a different opinion, the former president of the party Ev. Venizelos and Professor N. Alivizatos. As for PASOK’s proposal for the so-called Scandinavian model, he said that it looks more like a Scandinavian “crossword puzzle”, because there is no such thing in any country in the region.

Instead of regulating colleges by law, you are leveling higher education by violating the Constitution, said SYRIZA rapporteur Dion. Kalamatian.

The bill of the Ministry of Education will be introduced for discussion in the Plenary Session of the Parliament next Wednesday, March 6, and is expected to be put to a vote on Friday, March 8.
