The derailment of a train with nearly 2,000 people on board on November 20, 2016 in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh left 146 dead and nearly 180 injured.

2011 in India
A passenger train derailed on July 10, 2011 in northern India 150 km from the city of Lucknow. 15 carriages overturned, killing at least 35 people and injuring 100, according to AFP.
2016 in Cameroon
On 21 October 2016, a train traveling between Yaoundé and the port city of Douala derailed near the town of Eséka (central Cameroon), killing 79 people and injuring nearly 600. According to the investigation, the culprit would have been “excessive speed”.
2014 in the DRC
A cargo convoy carrying several hundred people derails on April 22, 2014 in Katanga, Democratic Republic of Congo. For a long time, the official toll was 74 dead and 163 wounded, but a month later, the Congolese government’s news agency announced 136 dead.
2013 in Spain
A train derailed at 179 km/h on a dangerous curve, on July 24, 2013, a few kilometers from Santiago de Compostela (north-west). The toll: 80 dead and almost 180 injured.
This railway catastrophe is one of the worst in Spain. In 1944, a collision between a train traveling from Madrid to Galicia and a locomotive resulted in hundreds of deaths. In 1972, 77 people lost their lives in the derailment of a train going from Cadiz to Seville, in Andalusia.
