Friday’s rail accident in India, following which at least 50 people died and more than 500 were injured, it is one of the biggest railway disasters in the world in the last ten years, according to AFP.

2023 in Greece

2021 in Pakistan

On 7 June 2021, at least 63 people died when a train derailed and collided with another passenger train in southern Pakistan.

2021 in Taiwan

On April 2, 2021, at least 49 people died and 200 were injured when a train carrying about 500 passengers collided with a construction truck that slid down an embankment near the coastal city of Hualien in eastern Taiwan.

The accident was Taiwan’s worst rail disaster in decades.

2019 in Pakistan

A passenger train fire kills at least 75 people in central Pakistan on October 31, 2019.

Most of the victims were pilgrims on their way to a religious gathering. The fire is attributed to the accidental explosion of gas cylinders.

2018 in India

A train collides with worshipers gathered for a Hindu festival in the northern state of Punjab on October 19, 2018, killing around 60 people and injuring 90 others. The crowd was on the railway to watch a fireworks display.

2016 in India

The derailment of a train with nearly 2,000 people on board on November 20, 2016 in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh left 146 dead and nearly 180 injured.

The 14 coaches derailed near the city of Kanpur.

2011 in India

A passenger train derailed on July 10, 2011 in northern India 150 km from the city of Lucknow. 15 carriages overturned, killing at least 35 people and injuring 100, according to AFP.

2016 in Cameroon
