The big goal is Paris

1010 athletes (including 50 Austrians) from 55 nations in all weight and age groups make the Austrian Taekwondo Open at the weekend in the Innsbruck Olympic Hall a major national event in the G1 category, where world ranking points are at stake. The latter is also targeting Marlene Jahl (+73 kg) from Askö Taekwondo Kirchdorf, who is defending the title.

“My journey towards Paris began in Tyrol a year ago, and I will always remember this victory,” said the 27-year-old from Trauner, for whom a dream would come true with a ticket for the 2024 Summer Olympics in France. The ambitious athlete subordinates everything to this – including her medical studies.

“I wanted to train like a professional, which is now also possible for me as an army athlete,” explained Jahl, who in 2022 was the first red-white-red athlete to win a Taekwondo World Cup medal (bronze) in 17 years. This year she won the Slovenia Open, the highlight of the season are the European Games in Poland (June 23-26).
