“Given the headlines in the press and the comments of certain Internet users, one would have said that I had really been tarred” immediately smiles the man who, for his radio debut with the Cactus on Vivacité, had caricatured Georges’ tartage -Louis Bouchez. “Even my sister told me: ‘Was it done on purpose or not?’” Jérôme de Warzée, in the middle of writing the Grand Cactus for September 14 on Tipik, had in fact asked his team the day before who wanted to and… several jostled at the gate. For fun, of course!
After 14 seasons of Cactus on the radio, we thought you wanted to slow down?
”Indeed, that’s what I wanted! But Vivacité did not agree (smile)! I like going there. I am always delighted, every morning, to participate in the show. I have no constraints, I really go there for pleasure. Then, they have made a lot of effort in recent years in terms of social networks and setting up the studio. At every level, it’s more and more enjoyable. Participating in this show, which has almost 40% audience in the morning, is incredible! And, as they tell me themselves, it’s not one more column that will change my life. So I will do on average three per week.”
And with The Big Cactus on TV, what should we expect for this 9th season?
“We always try to bring a little something extra to each season. It’s quite complex because the structure of the show is such that it’s difficult to touch. But we still decided to give the plateaus a little boost. They will be more numerous but shorter. We go from 12/13 minutes to a few minutes to offer more things. This is the first time we have touched this structure. The duplex will change too, even if we stay in a green key studio on site. Technically, it will be taller and wider. Which allows you to do more things inside with more people. We will also have a new decor that will be installed. And then, we continue the alternation of guests/columnists like last year with Nelson Monfort, Adamo, Christophe Willem, Alex Vizorek, etc. Which worked very well. Everyone brings their own and we really had a tough time.”
“Each show, we will have another guest/columnist and another guest/comedian who will perform sketches with us. That’s the big new thing.”
Difficult to do better this year?
”In addition to the guest columnist, we will have a guest actor. For example, we will have Kev Adams as actor and Liane Foly as columnist. Each show, we will have another guest/columnist and another guest/comedian who will perform sketches with us. This is the big news.”
Will there be departures or new faces? Rumors were talking regarding Kody on RTL…
“No one is leaving the show. Everyone has been leaving for years but, ultimately, it doesn’t go away. Everyone will be there. We just know that Kody is very busy. He already missed one or two shows last year for his filming so that will probably be the case this year too. And the same for the others. Fabian Le Castel and Damien Gillard had already missed shows. The only one who has never really missed a single show among the comedians is Martin Charlier. Otherwise Livia Dushkoff, David Jeanmotte (who would be courted in politics, Editor’s note) and myself neither. Adrien Devyver also missed out on the birth of his second child. Not many of us have made the grand slam! And as for new faces, there will be some too. Comedian actors, notably in the new sequence of Intimate Investigations which we are going to bring up to date. We therefore put aside the Investigafond.”
Will we see the Fabrizio phenomenon once more, the Carolo?
”We are not going to deprive ourselves of using the character. We went to shoot a sequence during the holidays. We have other proposals for sequences with him too. We will see him once more on set as well. So, with each show, the audience will always get their little dose of Fabrizio regardless of their involvement. Whether it’s an appearance, a sketch or an on-set intervention. There will always be a moment dedicated to Fabrizio. We know where the program’s weaknesses lie. People hate change. If we remove Fabrizio or Jardins et Loisirs, it is not possible. There will also be another little novelty for Martin Charlier. We will offer greater visibility to the Kikiscan cashier, she will have her sequence all to herself. It’s Martin who is behind the character and who will be entitled to his 3-4 minutes each time.”
After Forest National last May, what will be next?
“A tour had been planned. But it is extremely complicated to make several different dates. It was difficult to anticipate the end of last season. We have to work upstream and it’s me who produces – and not RTBF which only captures and broadcasts – it’s a completely crazy organization! And, for the moment, we’ve put that aside a little. Maybe we’ll do this for 10 years. We’re going to do our 142nd show, counting the Best of. People don’t realize the work behind it. Everything is new every time, it’s not just a show. It’s a one-shot. We don’t rehearse the day before, we don’t try our tricks in cafe theaters. We’re on a wire all the time. It’s only us who do this. We make 16 shows per year, or 16 times 100 minutes, the equivalent of 16 films per year in the studio. ”
