Many Mayenne families are worried regarding the shortage of the new preventive treatment once morest bronchiolitis. The Beyfortus went on sale in France on September 15 and it’s already out of stock. The drug cannot be found in pharmacies: it is a victim of its success among parents of infants. Prescilia, a mother who lives in Champéon in North Mayenne, will therefore have to do without it for her baby Adam who was born two weeks ago.
“The government did not anticipate the enthusiasm around this awareness”
Like many young parents, Prescilia relied on Beyfortus to protect her baby from the bronchiolitis epidemic. The awareness campaign began several months ago. “We are made to understand that it is super important for the health of our children : in the maternity ward, it’s the same. We have the booklets, the pediatrician talks to us regarding it, the midwives talk to us regarding it, we are made to understand that we would be bad parents if we chose not to do it, which is still very guilt-inducing. When we want to do it, we can’t because the government did not anticipate the enthusiasm around this awareness.” points the finger at this 38-year-old mother. And she adds, annoyed: “We must be aware that, if we tell parents that we can avoid resuscitation and respiratory assistance, parents will inevitably listen!“
This Mayenne mother is now worried regarding her baby, born on September 15. Viruses are starting to circulate, the bronchiolitis epidemic has already started: it is a very contagious infection which can be transmitted through sneezing for example. Without preventive treatment to protect her infant, she is preparing to put back in place “barrier gestures” At her place. “We have hydroalcoholic gel at home, so we are very careful, we wash our hands well. Me, I avoid holding Adam for three days because I’m starting to have a bit of a cold.” explain Prescilia.
According to the General Directorate of Health, new doses of Beyfortus might be available from November.
