The Best Video Games That Came Out While You Were Too Busy Playing ‘Elden Ring’

Elden Ring joined the very restricted club of video games capable of absorbing all the attention of critics and the public for several months. As GTA V (2013), Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017) or Read Dead Redemption 2 (2018) before him, the latest creation from the FromSoftware studio was elevated to the status of a masterpiece as soon as it was released on February 25 on consoles and PC. However, it has eclipsed new features that also deserve a spotlight: here is our selection.

« Citizen Sleeper »

Mix between the interactive novel and the puzzle, Citizen Sleeper puts us in the shoes of a robot in which we have injected the consciousness of a human being and who must try to survive in a space station where factions and bandits of all kinds clash. Extremely talkative but remarkably well written, Citizen Sleeper builds a successful portrait gallery and manages to captivate throughout its short, multi-ending storyline. However, it is reserved for English speakers, in the absence (for the moment) of a French translation.

Available for €17 on PC (Steam), €20 on Switch and Xbox. Available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

« Tunic »

Adventure with a capital “A” and cuteness with a capital “M”. This is the proposal of Tunic, in which it is a question of embodying a fox dressed in green in search of a great treasure. We find the same nostalgic formula as in Death’s Door (2021): a strong tribute to The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past (1991) embellished with demanding fights at the Dark Souls (2011). But, with its levels full of secrets and its unforgettable universe, it is clear that we are faced with video games with a great « J » and a capital “V” ».

Available for €28 on PC and Mac. Available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

« Lego Star Wars : la saga Skywalker »

Lego Star Wars : la saga Skywalker reviews (and grinds) three trilogies Star Wars in one title. Alone or in duos, we find ourselves alternately embodying most of the heroes of the franchise, from the original episode of George Lucas (numbered IV, of course) to episode IX of JJ Abrams. Solve puzzles, explore scenery that has become cult and above all fight the great figures of the Empire… TT Games revisits with joy and good humor a somewhat tried but very effective formula.

Available between €50 and €60 on Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC.

« Norco »

At night, the bright lights of a gigantic refinery prevent the inhabitants of the town of Norco from seeing the light of the stars. Thus begins game developer Geography of Robots’ first creation, a dystopian work inspired by the city of the same name, located on the outskirts of New Orleans. After years of absence and the death of her mother, Kay returns to her hometown and discovers that her brother has disappeared. The atmosphere evokes the road trip melancholy Kentucky Road Zero and the neo-noir atmosphere of Blade Runner. With a very humble device – pixel art and surveys in point and click – this narrative experience bewitched us with its poetic and political flashes.

Available for €15 on PC.

« Shift Shaft »

We thought we were definitively vaccinated once morest match-3, these interchangeable puzzles à la Candy Crush. However, the variant Shift Shaft succeeded in overcoming our immune defenses by offering an unprecedented mechanism: the possibility of tilting the grid by 90º or 180º to multiply the combinations. Sober graphics and unstoppable mechanics, this title – without integrated purchases or explosions of colors supposed to hypnotize us – reinjects a good dose of strategy into this genre that we thought hackneyed.

Available for €3 on iOS and Android.

« Run : The World in-between »

Nightmarish difficulty, a nervous soundtrack, simple controls and an original concept, there is everything you might hope for from a platform game with Run: The World in-between. The title from the Team Run studio shines with its very precise movements, its frantic pace and the permanent tension it imposes on the player. In Run, you have to cross quite short levels composed of recurring obstacles but which change the order of appearance with each test. This originality makes all the difficulty of the game: impossible to rely entirely on muscle memory, as one can do in a Celeste. Devilish but effective.

Available for €10 on Nintendo Switch and PC.

« Stanley Parable : Ultra Deluxe »

Stanley is back in this polished version of the inimitable The Stanley Parable (2013). Despite the addition of around thirty minutes of additional content, the trajectory of employee 427 has (almost) not changed: this model employee sees his routine disrupted by the disappearance of his colleagues. He sets off in search of them, following the instructions of an invisible narrator who will gradually lose control… Newcomers will delight in the narrative pirouettes and the reflexivity on the medium that made all the salt of the original version. Nothing revolutionary, however, for those who own the title released nine years ago.

Available for €22 on PC and Nintendo Switch.
