The best pictures from the professional women’s marathon at the Ironman Hawaii

Frank change / spomedis

Right from the start there was a surprise – or at least an unusual picture. It was Lucy Charles-Barclay who caught and overtook Daniela Ryf immediately after the change. This could not follow.

From behind, however, trouble approached in the person of Chelsea Sodaro. The American didn’t miss a beat and her competitors quickly stopped. While Ryf was struggling, Sodaro had soon caught Lucy Charles-Barclay as well and was able to take the lead.

German catch-up hunts

Laura Philipp and Anne Haug could, and had to, show off their running strength. Laura Philipp was able to work her way up to fourth place, Anne Haug secured third place. Although she was only 30 seconds behind Lucy Charles-Barclay, she was unable to close the gap until the end.

Emotional finishes

Chelsea Sodaro walked her boot through in a controlled manner, no other athlete could oppose that. After a marathon in 2:51 hours, she finally got the green wreath.
