The 2021 Southeast Asian Games, postponed due to COVID-19, will be held in Vietnam on the 12th. The start of the game is on the 12th, but the preliminary rounds for men’s soccer, beach handball, and kickboxing will begin first. What has been attracting attention from the start is the confrontation between the two Korean commanders. Indonesia will meet their first opponent Vietnam on the 6th. The under-23 (U23) Indonesian national football team, led by coach Shin, departs for Vietnam today to participate in the Southeast Asian Games (SEA).

This is the third time Director Shin and Director Park face off. Vietnam defeated Indonesia 0-4 in Group G of the Asian region’s second qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in June of last year. In December of last year, they drew 0-0 in the third round of Group B of the Suzuki Cup. Indonesian media ‘Scor’ predicted the match between the two Korean commanders, “Both teams are playing in the same style, so considering that excellent physical strength is required, it will be a very exciting match.”

The media also analyzed the K-League stats of the two coaches. Park coached Gyeongnam FC, Jeonnam Dragons, Sangju Sangmu, etc., and Shin has experience leading Seongnam Ilhwa (currently Seongnam FC). Between 2009 and 2012, the two leaders met 10 times on the K-League stage, and Manager Shin recorded 8 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. This was when Director Shin led Seongnam and Director Park led Jeonnam and Sangju.

However, Vietnam has the upper hand in the national team. The Vietnam U-23 national team played 12 matches once morest the Indonesian U-23 national team, leading them with 7 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses.
