“The best decision of his life”, his marriage and Florentino Pérez: Thibaut Courtois gives himself up alongside his fiancée

In the cages of the Devils during the success in Sweden, the Real Madrid goalkeeper will give way to Koen Casteels once morest Germany this Tuesday evening following a small discomfort in the adductors.

But the Belgian was talked regarding at length this Tuesday morning since “Vanity Fair” published a long interview alongside his Israeli fiancée. The opportunity for the lovebirds to discuss their wedding scheduled for next June. “We already have the date and it will be in a beautiful place. It will be a private, romantic and funny ceremony. We will organize a big party where the music will not be lacking. We also love to dance reggaeton”.

Among the guests, Courtois did not forget to invite his boss, Florentino Pérez, president of the merengue club. “We invited him, we hope he can come”, explains Mishel Gerzig. Before Courtois continued. “I get on well with him. He’s the boss and he always wants us to win. I like his style, he is very close to the players. He never misses a match, I had never seen that from a manager before. He is a great president! It’s not like we text each other all the time, but we talk to each other before and following games. When he is in the stands, he does not hesitate to come and talk to Mishel and the rest of our relatives”.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper also looked back on his past and the “best decision of his life”: leaving Genk for Atlético Madrid in 2011. “I was advised to stay in Belgium but I knew that if I wanted to grow, both professionally and privately, I had to leave then”.

Before returning to his present in the Spanish capital. “I had the chance to play for big clubs like Atlético and Chelsea, but Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world. Everyone recognizes you and congratulates you if you have just won a title”.

The Belgian also explains that it is not easy to maintain anonymity in the streets of the Spanish capital. “Walking on the Gran Via (one of the main streets of Madrid, editor’s note)? It’s complicated, even if you put on a cap and glasses. But we like to be spontaneous”.

The engaged couple also took the opportunity to look back on their first meeting, at the restaurant “Ten con Ten”. “When we first saw each other, we felt butterflies in our stomachs”.

But before the wedding, Courtois will have to end the season with Real with a very specific objective in mind: to lift the Champions League for the second year in a row. And to achieve this, the Benzema band will have to pass the Chelsea obstacle for a place in the last four.
