A musical regarding Italy’s four-time Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will be staged in London in March. The show is being produced by theater producer Francesca Moody, best known for the huge success of the TV series Fleabag, starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Britain’s The Guardian reported today. Tickets for the musical are on sale today.
The musical portrays the former Italian Prime Minister on the eve of the verdict in the tax fraud case in 2013. After being sentenced to four years in prison, he decides to write an autobiographical work.
His story is told from the perspective of three women: Ilda Boccassini, the Milan prosecutor who investigated him; his second wife, actress Veronica Lario, who left him in 2009 following nearly 20 years of marriage; and a journalist inspired by a real person. Berlusconi will be portrayed “as a real person and not as a cartoon character,” the producer said.
“Berlusconis Charisma” Thema
The musical will deal with Berlusconi’s charisma and the way he handles power. Music and lyrics are by Ricky Simmonds and Simon Vaughan, who have been writing musicals together for years, having met as children on the set of Grange Hill, a British children’s television series. The audience will hear several pieces of music, including “For Italy”, “Bunga Bunga”, “Luckily there is Silvio” and “My Weekend with Wladimir”.
Berlusconi was already the protagonist of the film “Loro” by Italian director Paolo Sorrentino. In it, the Oscar winner satirizes the life of Berlusconi between 2006 and 2010.
