Entering the parliamentary investigation meeting and urging the truth to be investigated… Chasing the former lawmaker and expressing dissatisfaction in a loud voice
Some of the bereaved family protested, “What is the meaning of this state investigation?”
(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Park Gyeong-joon, Han Ju-hong and Park Hyung-bin = National Assembly ‘Special Committee for Government Investigation of Itaewon Disaster’On the 27th, the first agency report was temporarily suspended due to protests from the bereaved families of the disaster.
About 50 bereaved family members were watching the agency report in a separate listening space in the National Assembly that day.
They are known to have expressed their dissatisfaction with the answers of Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min, who came out during the institutional report, and the inquiries of members of the People’s Power.
Minister Lee’s answer to the effect that there was no major problem in responding to the disaster and remarks by ruling party lawmakers who focused on the controversy of Democratic Party lawmaker Shin Hyun-young, who raised the issue of riding with Dr. Car, were the causes.
As a result, some of the bereaved families went to the meeting room where the institutional report was being held and tried to ask for a direct attendance, but there was a brief friction with the National Assembly officials.
Afterwards, a bereaved family member who came to the meeting room through the mediation of opposition party lawmakers shouted, “Is there any meaning to the government investigation that is dragging on Shin Hyun-young?” and “I am dissatisfied with the attitude of the ruling party lawmakers.”
Woo Sang-ho, chairman of the special committee of the Democratic Party, finally declared a suspension at around 4:38.
Cho Mi-eun, the mother of the late actor Lee Ji-han, who died in the Itaewon disaster, entered the meeting room and went to the minister’s desk, slammed the desk and sobbed, crying out for resentment.
Mr. Cho said, “My son is dead,” and said, “The Minister, please investigate thoroughly.”
He continued, “Minister, please. I don’t think it will work in this state.”
According to officials at the scene, when Minister Lee said that he would meet the bereaved family separately, the bereaved family said, “If this is not the case, how do I meet you?”
Some of the bereaved families chased following the ruling party lawmakers exiting the conference hall following the meeting and shouted, “If you’re a mother, you shouldn’t do that!”
Rep. Lee Man-hee, secretary of the ruling party of the special committee, complained regarding the situation in which the meeting was declared suspended due to the protest of the bereaved family, saying, “What kind of meeting is this way?”
Then, Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Gyo-heung, secretary of the opposition party, said, “What did we do?”
The agency report did not resume until around 7:30 p.m.
Rep. Lee said, “I can express my protest at the questions of the members, but I was shocked by the act of (protesting) even following the members following the suspension.” I want you to be careful regarding maintenance,” he said.
Chairman Woo said, “I also experienced an unprecedented situation while working in politics.”
