Each year, around 10% of French people participate in Dry January. A break from alcohol consumption to take care of your health. Although the month of January is already halfway over, some people have decided to continue abstinence.

In his book “How to Prevent Dementia: An Expert’s Guide to Long-Term Brain Health“, Dr. Richard Restak recommends no longer drinking alcohol from a certain age. According to him, this would be the best way to prevent the onset of dementia, as reported The Sun.

49,000 deaths per year

In his book, the neurologist describes alcohol as a “direct neurotoxin“which damages, destroys or alters the functioning of the nervous system. To avoid this damage, Dr. Restak therefore recommends stopping alcohol from a certain age.”I strongly suggest, if you are 65 or older, to completely and permanently eliminate alcohol from your diet.“, reports the specialist. He suggests reconsidering the relationship with drinking and becoming aware of the moments that trigger the consumption of a glass of alcohol (bad mood, events, etc.).
