The benefits and harms of dates… – MTV Lebanon

Russian nutritionist Angelica Duval announced that dates are a useful food, but excessive consumption of them leads to weight gain.

The expert pointed out that dates are a useful food item, but this depends on their quantity and quality, so she explains how to choose and eat dates.

According to her, dates are rich in dietary fiber, which positively affects the gut and gut microbiome, and dates improve sleep and skin condition.

She said: “Dates contain a high percentage of silicon, which stimulates the production of collagen, which is necessary for the skin and beauty of women. Dates also contain a good percentage of chromium, which enhances insulin function and regulates the level of glucose in the blood. Dates also contain the amino acid tryptophan, which positively affects mood.” It is useful for those who have trouble sleeping.

She added, “Dates contain high calories, which makes them an important source of energy. However, increasing them in the diet leads to weight gain. They also contain a high percentage of sugar, so they can, in certain circumstances, complicate the work of the digestive system.”

And she added, “It is better to eat dates on their own or with fruits and vegetables, so that they are digested naturally and do not remain in any part of the digestive system and do not cause gas formation. Therefore, I recommend eating 3-4 dates a day, and it is better in the first half of the day. Because When taken before bed, the sugar will continue to be digested throughout the night, which puts a burden on the digestive system.”

According to her, people with diabetes can eat dates following the approval of the attending physician. She advised that dates should be washed before eating them.
