The Beatles topped the British charts for the first time since 1969. The group’s latest song, “Now and Then”, released in early November, has already broken several records, the Official Charts Company, which compiles and publishes music charts, said in a statement.
As the company noted, on the day of release, the song rose to 42nd place on the chart in just ten hours, and already on November 10 it took first place in it. Thus, The Beatles broke their own record, topping the British charts for the 18th time. At the same time, the absolute record belongs to Elvis Presley – 21 of his songs topped the British charts.
In addition, The Beatles’ first song in 27 years set several more records. For example, the gap between the group’s two compositions in first place on the chart turned out to be a record – 54 years. The last time was “The Ballad of John and Yoko” in 1969.
The interval between the first and last single of the group, which topped the hit parade, was also a record – 60 years and 6 months. The Beatles’ song first reached number one in the charts in May 1963. It was the song “From Me to You”. In addition, The Beatles became the oldest group to top the British chart.
“It’s unimaginable. It’s stunning. This is also a very emotional moment for me. Just super!” Paul McCartney commented on the situation (quoted by TASS).
