In the pastries section, the croissant and the pain au chocolat are the most popular and both appeal to all gourmands. But when it comes to calories, these two treats are not equal.

If you want to limit your caloric intake, it is better to indulge in the crispy, golden flakiness of a butter croissant.

Individually (around 50 grams), this delicacy, which is an integral part of French heritage, contains 10 grams of lipids, 21 grams of carbohydrates, and provides an average of 200 calories.

For its part, pain au chocolat is fattier and sweeter. Its energy value is on average 420 calories per 100 grams. Knowing that this sweetness generally weighs 70 grams, it takes 290 calories.

According to the Ciqual website of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSES), the prize for the lowest calorie pastries goes to artisanal raisin bread (333 calories/100 grams).

It is followed by brioche, a 100 gram portion of which provides, on average, 374 calories.
