LOS ANGELES – The long-awaited phenomenon “Barbenheimer”, named like that on social networks for the union of the titles of the “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” films, will arrive this weekend at the box office in much of the world as the great promise summer movie.
Greta Gerwing’s rosy film regarding the famous doll and Christopher Nolan’s dark film regarding the creator of the atomic bomb hit theaters on Friday, July 21, leaving moviegoers debating which one to see first.
The great summer premiere in theaters also coincides with the Hollywood break due to the writers’ strike to which the actors have also joined.
The largest theater chain in the United States, AMC Theaters, informed the specialized portal Variety that more than 40,000 people have purchased tickets to see both films on the same day.
But everything indicates that the Warner Bros. film regarding the Barbie doll has already won the fight, since it is estimated that in the United States alone it generates between $90 and $110 million dollars in its first weekend.
For its part, the Universal Pictures film starring Cillian Murphy aims to raise $50 million in its debut.
According to the specialized page IMDb, the budget of both films was around $100 million dollars.
The premiere of the film will be on July 21. To see more from Telemundo, visit
“Barbie” was able to promote its premiere with actors Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling to the press before the actors’ strike halted activities in Hollywood.
“Oppenheimer” also managed to pull off some events, but the strike announcement forced its cast to leave the red carpet at its London premiere.
Hollywood actors and screenwriters are on a simultaneous strike for the first time in 63 years that, if not resolved soon, might result in a staggering $4 billion in economic losses.
