The Bâtie-Festival de Genève, the Sion Festival: our cultural agenda

Freiburg

Exposition

They are vibrant, dense, almost Amazonian even – the forests of Fribourg. Those that Aldo Ellena, a local photojournalist, surveyed with his camera slung over his shoulder. An ecosystem as structured as it is anarchic, full of contrasting “little universes”, which he has documented according to the seasons and chance. We discover this herbarium on the white wall of the Musée gruérien, a place intended to highlight the work of contemporary Friborg photographers. Fresh and local. V. N.

“Small Universes”. Musée gruérien, Bulle, until October 2.

Geneva

Cirque

Bastian Baker, the return. Because he shone on the track last year and showed “exceptional talent as a host”, says the press kit, the singer decided to sign for a second season with the Knies . He even composed a special song for the Finale which evokes the magic of the circus. Fans will appreciate, others will applaud the duo Full House, an American-Swiss duo “comic and sometimes excessive, which skilfully combines puns, hands (juggling) and music”. Finally, the third highlight of 2022 for the national circus, which is starting its French-speaking tour in Geneva: the Extreme Light troupe, or how Ukrainian and Russian dancers dance together in the night, only showing the illuminated outlines of their silhouettes. A strong symbol in this torn period. M.-P. G.

Knie. August 25 to September 11; before Nyon and Lausanne.

Spectacles

The back-to-school feast. The Bâtie-Festival de Genève raises the curtain on Thursday. And the good news is that there are still places for all the shows. Are you feeling whimsical? The Frenchwoman Vilama Pons, she is leading the investigation at the Théâtre de Carouge from August 25 in The Denver Perimeter. A tricks and tricks spirit. Tannay’s Musical Variations. Sat August 27 at 8 p.m.

It presents itself as “the most picturesque of festivals” in Romandie and we will not say the opposite. It is in the middle of the Vaud vineyards, in the commune of Begnins, that the JVAL Open Air hosts clusters of concerts every summer. This 17th edition hits hard with Odézenne, a trio from Bordeaux who will declaim their existential hymns in the privacy of the Serreaux-Dessus gardens. The up-and-coming British rapper Willow Kayne and young Swiss bands to watch – Silance, Los Orioles and Olympic Antigua – will also frolic there. V. N.
