The Barcelona captain is happy to stay despite receiving a “small junior salary”

The player, Sergi Roberto, has expressed his willingness to sign a new contract with the Spanish football club Barcelona, although he revealed that he is currently receiving a salary equal to that of a rising player from the club’s second-row team.

And the Spanish international Roberto had agreed in June to extend the contract for a period of one year to remain in the ranks of the team in the 2022-2023 season, following the end of his previous contract.

Roberto, 30, who is spending his thirteenth season with the first team in Barcelona, has been associated with moving to other teams as he enters the last six months of his contract with Barcelona.

Although his salary was greatly reduced in light of Barcelona’s great financial crisis, Roberto expressed his happiness to stay with the Catalan team for at least another season.

Roberto said in statements to the Catalan radio station “RAK 1”: At the present time, I get a salary as if I were a rising player from the second-row team in Barcelona, but I do this proudly because I want to be here, the financial aspect is not important to me.

He added: I haven’t enjoyed playing in recent years because I wasn’t physically fit. I wanted to get back in shape, to have fun once more.

He continued: We have not started talks yet (regarding a new contract), but I would like to stay. From what the coaching staff told me, I know they are happy with me and want me to stay here.

Roberto added: I would be very happy if I might continue here, and enjoy myself on the field in a Barcelona shirt.
