The ban on heat engines in Europe abandoned from 2026?

A “review clause” in 2026

Perhaps the boot of Europe has the means to have this law repealed on its own? Probably not. But other voices are beginning to be heard elsewhere in Europe as well, particularly in France where Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, has called for the introduction of a “review clause” in 2026. This would make it possible to the update on the development of technologies with manufacturers, but also the state of the electrical network and the network of charging stations in order to assess the relevance and feasibility of the ban. This means that if this clause is validated, MEPs might simply decide to lighten or even simply cancel the ban on heat engines. All the more so if it proved impossible to find conditions for a smooth implementation. We can already imagine that Italy will put pressure in this direction.
