The Backrooms 1998: Camcorder Horror

The horror FPS is now getting yet another project with the early access release of The Backrooms 1998, a title described as “a first-person psychological horror survival game”. It has the merit of proposing an artistic direction that is, to say the least, particular, since everything is perceived from the point of view of the camera held by the character. Enjoy the grain and pixels of the camcorders of yesteryear, which your parents used to film their holidays or when you blew out the candles on your fifth birthday cake.

That’s not all and, as we can see in the trailer, the protagonist is also equipped with a paint gun. If it is certain that some of the players will use it to draw genitals on the walls, it seems that it is rather intended to mark the places where we have already passed, to draw routes, etc. Another peculiarity, according to the game’s Steam file, enemies will be able to find you if they hear you scream through your microphone. So remember to transfer or unplug your microphone before playing!

So many original ideas. Besides, The Backrooms 1998 seems rather classic with mannequins suddenly coming to life, mysterious shadows at the end of the corridors and blood on the walls. After all, it’s developed by one person!

The Backrooms 1998 est available on Steam for €7.37.
