Frogwares just announced Sherlock Holmes : The Awakened, a complete remake of their title originally released in 2006. More than a reissue for the latest generation consoles, the studio is talking regarding a “complete rewrite”. Previously presented as Project PalianytsiaThe Awakened is a dark, H. P. Lovecraft-inspired story steeped in the story arc of a young Sherlock Holmes tackling his first big deal once settled in London.
The announcement is therefore reduced to its bare minimum. Indeed, a Kickstarter campaign will soon be launched to help raise the last funds needed to produce the game and offer fans additional rewards to support the studio, at a time when their country is at war. You can follow the progress of the campaign at this link. Regarding the changes between this remake and the original, Jaroslav MartyniukFeature Designer Team Lead, said:
No assets or code from the original game are reused. We’re rebuilding the entire game from scratch to run Unreal Engine 4, using any new assets or those we can skillfully rework from Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, released only a few months ago. We are also adding entirely new game mechanics while reworking the original mechanics to expand the methods of solving cases. Changes to the story and timeline involve the recording of entirely new voices. We’re also reworking the camera to be closer to modern third-person games, redoing all the UI, animations, and cutscenes. The list is long. It’s essentially an entirely new game with only the underlying story of investigations remaining more or less intact.
Sherlock Holmes : The Awakened is planned for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC and Switch without a specific date.
