Training professionals not only entails a process of appropriation of concepts, methods and techniques of the profession, but also considers the cultivation of values and the integration of a humanistic vision of the world and of life that provide hope, he mentioned on behalf of the Rector from the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx), Carlos Eduardo Barrera Díaz, the Secretary of Planning and Institutional Development, María Esther Aurora Contreras Lara Vega leading the ceremony for the 68th Anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine.
“One of the areas of knowledge whose validity, relevance and significance is unquestionable in the UAEMéx is health, since it focuses on one of the most important priorities of all communities to meet current needs” he added.
Contreras Lara Vega pointed out that throughout its historical trajectory, the academic community of medicine has had the vision of gradually incorporating other areas of health science and a wide range of advanced studies into its educational offer, which have positioned it as one of the the most solid pillars of the Mexican Autonomous Community.
During his speech, the director of the Faculty, Hugo Mendieta Zerón, recognized the work of the women and men who over the course of 68 years have passionately collaborated so that the Faculty of Medicine continues to train health professionals in a sensitive and with enormous work on health at the State and National level.
“The members of this space are a uniting force in the field of health,” he added.
The Faculty of Medicine opened its doors for the first time on March 3, 1955 with 29 students in the southwest corner of what was then the State of Mexico’s Literary and Autonomous Scientific Institute, today the historic Rectory building, thanks to a project promoted by Toluqueños doctors and by institutional authorities who saw in it the opportunity to strengthen the academic offer of this house of studies.
In 1969, having as its headquarters the now Maternal and Child Institute of the State of Mexico, the Specialty in Pediatrics was offered, the first postgraduate course of the Maximum House of Studies in Mexico.
Currently, this Faculty offers degrees in Surgeon, nutrition, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and medical bioengineering, as well as 33 specialty programs, the subspecialty in critical medicine in obstetrics (created within this space), master’s degrees and the joint doctorate in Health Sciences. health.
During the ceremony, the photographic exhibition “Health is Art” was inaugurated, which is made up of the feelings of the faculty and students of the Faculty of Medicine about what it is to practice this profession on a daily basis.
