In a note sent, this Monday, September 12, to health professionals, the General Directorate of Health (DGS) warns of increasing cases of dengue detected in mainland France. Thus, since July 2022, five episodes of autochthonous dengue fever transmission have been identified in the Paca and Occitanie regions.
“The occurrence of episodes in departments hitherto spared, such as Pyrénées-Orientales, Haute-Garonne and Hautes-Pyrénées, as well as their size, testify to an increase in the risk of dengue fever in mainland France, but also to chikungunya and zika, also transmitted by tiger mosquito“, specify the health authorities. The DGS explains this situation in particular by the resumption of travel and the return of travelers from endemic areas and by the current climatic conditions favorable to the multiplication of mosquitoes with heat and rain.
Other cases or outbreaks are likely in the coming weeks in mainland France. The DGS specifies that it is important to report cases of contamination to the ARS (Regional Health Agencies) so that preventive measures (in particular mosquito control actions) and the necessary investigations are quickly implemented.
