«Years before the October 7, 2023 attack, Hamas leaders had planned an even more vicious wave of terrorist attacks against Israel, including the 9/11-style demolition of a Tel Aviv skyscraper, as they pressured Iran to help realize their vision of annihilating the Jewish state.” This is what we read in the Washington Post, which reports the contents of some documents of the Palestinian organization seized by Israeli forces in Gaza. From the papers and electronic registers recovered from Hamas commands, planning emerges “in an advanced state for attacks with trains, boats and even horse-drawn carriages”.
Hamas’ strategy included the involvement of other allied militant groups to coordinate an assault against Israel from the North, South and Southeast. Among the seized documents are plans for an attack, but also letters sent to top Iranian leaders, including Ayatollah Khamenei, as early as 2021, requesting funding of around $500 million and training for 12,000 Hamas fighters. «The 59 pages of letters and planning documents in Arabic obtained by The Washington Post represent a fraction of the thousands of documents the Israel Defense Forces say they have seized since Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza began, the October 27″, underlines the US newspaper. In particular, Hamas leaders had planned attacks that included the demolition of towers in Gush Dan, in the largest and most densely populated metropolitan area of the state of Israel, which also includes large areas of the Tel Aviv district. The two skyscrapers of Gush Dan (the Azrieli Towers and the Moshe Aviv Tower), according to the documents, were to be razed according to the original plans.
