Laura Lopera joined the 11 cases of feminicide registered so far in 2024 in Colombia.
The young woman, 20 years old, was reported missing a week ago, and was found on February 10 in an apartment in the Villa Hermosa commune, Medellín.
The case drew attention due to its similarity to the femicide of the 22-year-old DJ, Valentina Trespalacios in Bogotá.
Similarities in crimes
The young women were found in suitcases
The authorities were notified by neighbors regarding a horrible smell coming from an apartment located in the Boston neighborhood of Medellín.
When checking the place, they found a suitcase in which Lopera was found dead.
For her part, Trespalacios was found in a suitcase inside a garbage container in the town of Fontibón, west of Bogotá.
The crime was carried out by his foreign romantic partners
According to information revealed by the police, Lopera had been in a romantic relationship with a foreigner for 3 months.
For now, the man was identified as J. Wiseman, apparently of Canadian nationality.

It became known in the last hours that Wiseman had fled to Guatemala. For now, his whereregardings are unknown and he has a blue circular once morest him.
On the other hand, John Poulos, a US citizen and ex-boyfriend of Trespalacios, was accused of committing the femicide.
This man would have viciously suffocated the 22-year-old girl during an argument, and then fled.
Poulos would have fled to Panama, where he planned to take a plane to Istanbul, Turkey. But he ended up being captured.
Public order
Families reported that their partners were ‘jealous’ of them and suffered abuse:
In the case of Laura Lopera, an audio of the man was shared showing the threats he made to the young woman.
«I told you come and let’s talk, and solve the problems. I’m angry with you, you don’t listen to me, you should listen to me. Come and let’s solve everything. You don’t talk to me on WhatsApp! And complain and complain. Bla bla bla. Stand up”the foreigner is heard saying.
For his part, according to family and friends, John Poulos had aggressive behavior towards Valentina.
The Prosecutor’s Office charged Poulos with the crimes of aggravated femicide and concealment of evidentiary material.
The American did not accept the charges. For now, the male remains held in La Picota prison.
